Ogun Supports Establishment of Catholic University0
Ogun State government has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the promoters of Loyola Jesuit University in order to fast-track its establishment in the state. Loyola Jesuit University is the first Catholic university in Africa, to be situated at Ogbere in Ogun State.
Speaking while receiving the delegation of the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, led by its Bishop, Most Revd Albert Fashina, the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said his administration would continue to give utmost attention and recognition to any group seeking to promote the development of education in the state.
Education, you will recall, is the first of our five cardinal programmes and has continued to take the lion’s share of our yearly budget because of our commitment to restore the glory of the sector. We will therefore support wholeheartedly any noble private initiative in the sector
He promised to immediately look into the process of fast-tracking the approval for land as well as assist in opening up the road leading to the site of the institution.
Earlier in his remarks, the Catholic Bishop of Ijebu-Ode Diocese, Most Revd Albert Fashina, lauded the efforts of the present administration in the education sector, adding that
various states of the federation have signified interest in having the University situated in their domain, but the promoters have chosen Ogun because of its comparative advantage.
Most Revd. Fasina disclosed that the University would run a multi-campus structure, thereby drawing students from Africa as well as all parts of the world.
