Principal’s Cup Rejuvenated in Ogun


gtbank  logoOgun State Government has put necessary machinery in motion to resuscitate the “Principals’ Cup Football Competition” as a veritable means of helping its youths develop physically and mentally.

An indication on this emerged today in Abeokuta at a meeting which the State’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Olugbenga Otenuga held with the representative of Guaranty Trust Bank which is partnering the State Government on the football competition.

Speaking at the meeting to facilitate the take off of the competition, Hon. Otenuga said the ministry embarked on the partnership in line with the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration’s drive to develop grassroots sports, hence his desire to rejuvenate the Principals’ Cup to among other things, help restore the lost glory of sports in the State.

It is our priority and concern to discover talents in Ogun State schools so we need to empower them so that we can bequeath a lasting legacy to our youths in line with the vision of Senator Ibikunle Amosun

Contributing, the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Alh. Ambali Isola said his Ministry would provide all necessary logistics to ensure the success of the competition as it would aid an all-round development of the students.

Speaking on the modalities for the competition, representative of the partnering bank, Mr. Fela Bank-Olemoh explained that elimination would start at the preliminary stage as all the 834 secondary schools in the State were expected to participate in both the male and female categories. According to him, the winner of the competition in each category would go home with a cash prize of N1m, the first runner-up would collect N750,000, the second runner-up would smile home with the sum of N500,000 while the third runner-up school would get N250, 000
